Dynamical friction of radio galaxies in galaxy clusters

چکیده
The distribution of luminous radio galaxies in galaxy clusters has been observed to be concentrated in the inner region. We consider the role of dynamical friction of massive galaxies (M ∼ 10 M⊙), assuming them to be hosts of luminous radio galaxies, and show that beginning with a Navarro-Frenk-White density profile of a cluster of mass Mcl ∼ 10 15 M⊙ of concentration c ∼ 5 and collapsing at z ∼ 1, the density profile of radio galaxies evolve to a profile of concentration c ∼ 25, as observed, in a time scale of t ∼ 3–5 Gyr.

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
متن کاملVelocity Dispersion of 335 Galaxy Clusters Selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey: Statistical Evidence for Dynamical Interaction, and Against Ram-Pressure Stripping
There has been plenty of observational evidence of cluster galaxy evolution such as the Butcher-Oemler effect and the morphology-density relation. However, it has been difficult to identify the origin of the cluster galaxy evolution. It has been simply difficult to trace the complicated process of galaxy evolution with several giga years of timescale, using the observation which only brings us ...
متن کاملDynamical Friction and Cooling Flows in Galaxy Clusters
We investigate a model of galaxy clusters in which the hot intracluster gas is efficiently heated by dynamical friction (DF) of galaxies. We allow for both subsonic and supersonic motions of galaxies and use the gravitational drag formula in a gaseous medium presented by Ostriker (1999). The energy lost by the galaxies is either redistributed locally or into a Gaussian centered on the galaxy. W...
متن کاملDynamical Friction in dE Globular Cluster Systems
The dynamical friction timescale for globular clusters to sink to the center of a dwarf elliptical galaxy (dE) is significantly less than a Hubble time if the halos have King-model or isothermal profiles and the globular clusters formed with the same radial density profile as the underlying stellar population. We examine the summed radial distribution of the entire globular cluster systems and ...
متن کاملThe Scaling Relations and the Fundamental Plane for Radio Halos and Relics of Galaxy Clusters
Diffuse radio emission in galaxy clusters is known to be related to cluster mass and cluster dynamical state. We collect the observed fluxes of radio halos, relics, and mini-halos for a sample of galaxy clusters from the literature, and calculate their radio powers. We then obtain the values of cluster mass or mass proxies from previous observations, and also obtain the various dynamical parame...
